Week 2 Recap

With week 1 in the rearview mirror it was full steam ahead with the jewball schedule. A beautiful sunny Sunday morning with three more jewball games on tap.

In game 1a it was dark of pray, blitz. daveo, kut, mighty, bz, and steve-o vs. colors of avenger, bert, ice, spira, tom, vegh, and zinny. Colors took the ball first but after going for it on 4th and 12 on the opening drive could not convert. After video review post game the call was correct. Ice was short of the sticks and dark took over with a short field. Two plays later it was steve-o standing alone in the corner of the endzone for a 1-0 dark lead. Avenger and dark would strike back right away with quick runs and tom being a majestic horse in the middle of the field. 6 plays later it was Zinny on a screen to the house with ice lead blocking to tie it up at 1. However, on this day the dark offense could not be stopped. After a couple of short plays to kut it was daveo on 4th and 2, who picked up the first down and a lot more on his way to a 65 yard touchdown. 2-1 dark. Avenger went right back to work and after a deep ball to vegh and a couple of hand offs to ice, found zinny in the middle of the endzone to tie it up at 2. Unfortunately for colors that would be it for a while. Dark scored 3 more unanswered with deep ball tds to bz and daveo followed by a screen to mighty for a long td weaving and bobbing through the defense like a rat. dark’s defense became smothering and bz and kut each wrapped up two sacks a piece to keep avenger in check. After another turnover on downs, it was pray to blitz for a ten yard td….but wait blitz stumbled and falls down at the one. next play it was bz for his second td of the day. 6-2 dark. Finally, colors put together a scoring drive with a pretty slant from the $75 man to ice from 8 yards out to make it 6-3. Fish then stepped in as avenger had to leave and led a nice drive but no score. props to him for coming early. Finally, on the last drive it was the rat again who caught a slant in mighty traffic and took it to the house. 7-3 final dark. Jewball to BZ for the two tds and dominant d line play all day and just completely unlocking dark’s defense.

In game 1b it was both a throwback and a new era in one. On one dark side it was rabin at the helm leading, paddles, spreadies, prime, justin, stella, and zada vs. new rookie davenger leading his colors team of berk, kagan, portal, spiegel, tbd and new kid fischler. a lot of interceptions in that one and ultimately it came down to who made less mistakes. Rabin turned back the clock for a couple of plays leading to two deep tds to Stella and Rabin added another score with a flip to prime for a 45 yard score. On the other side davenger kept hitting berk for slant after slant that he took for big yards and a score Berk would add another on a pick six. I believe the score was 3-2 for most of the game. But in this game of interceptions there was one that proved to be better than the rest and ultimately the winning score. On 2nd and long from their own side of the field, Davenger went back to pass and threw a pick to…. Rabin. Rabin scampers ahead for a pick six to make it 4-2. Colors would make it a close game with another berk td (giving him six already on this young season in just two games) to make it 4-3. Colors would get their last lick to tie it up but a final drive stalled in the red zone on a Justin batted ball to end this one at 4-3. A lot of deserving jewballs in this one and to be honest berk was a monster for colors. But you can’t spell jewball without Dr. Rabin Rahmani pray’s dad. And on this day he threw three tds and had himself a pick six. Jewball to the godfather of Jewball. Enjoy Doma team Dark.

In game 2 it was dark of pray, crumble, kut, legs, logan, prime, and tom vs. colors of yaron, ice, kagan, paddles, spreadshies, blitz and fish. Only week 2 but this was one of the better games we’ve had thus far. A back and forth tight contest that came down to the wire. Yaron got hurt on the first play of the game and a mixture of tbd and speigel (eligibility czar!) filled in for him on defense. Colors took the lead first on a deep ball to ice who bullied crumble (more on that later) to haul it in for a 1-0 lead. Dark answered right back with two deep shots to legs, who hauled in both to tie it at 1 a piece. After a couple of three and outs on both sides, yaron found something that worked and stuck with it. A flip to fish with ice blocking proved deadly and fish ran it in from 60 out to make 2-1. Dark again answered back, this time with a long drive and a td to Kut on 4th and goal to make it 2-2. Yaron went right back to the drawing board and a screen to fish with ice lead blocking for another long td made it 3-2. Dark had to get moving and use the new rookie crumble they did. Hand offs, screens, slants, they put the ball in crumbles hands and he picked up big chunks. Wasn’t just on this drive, but all day. Interestingly, Each touch by crumble ended the same way… with ice grabbing his flag after a gain of 20. But crumble did not crumble. He got up, shook off the crumbs and did it again. Leading dark down the field into the redzone. A pray scramble from 15 out tied the game at 3. Next drive, dark got a big stop on third and 10 to set up a 4th and ten for yaron and colors. The options were punt and give dark one more chance or go for it and try to end the game right there. They went for it and a slant from yaron to fish came up a yard short with Logan making a wolverine-like flag grab to stop colors. Now was dark’s chance to take the lead. After two plays for no gain it was third and goal and a long pass from pray to Logan was just a bit too far. It would be 4th and goal from the 15 for dark’s last chance at winning this game. This time it was a bullet from pray to legs at the goalline who secures the catch in traffic between ice and blitz to give dark the 4-3 lead. Colors had one more chance and drove down to the 20 after a few dump offs from yaron to mandel got them big yards. On first and goal it was a screen to fish again who got stopped at the 5. Another screen to fish but this time crumble and Logan stopped him at the 1 and no TBI to bring up 4th and goal. With a chance to tie the game up a shovel pass from yaron to ice was knocked away at the last second by pray to end this one at 4-3. Legs is definitely deserving of a jewball with the two tds and two sacks in this one but despite having no actual stats on the day it’s going to crumble. The dude was tough as nails racking up catch after catch and playing all day incredible defense (along with a huge pass breakup on the final drive of the game). Crumble Welcome to Jewball!.

Who wants week 3! IJWT. Happy Bday J. Blame the captains. Cancel leagues.
