There is nothing and I mean nothing like waking up early on a Sunday morning and just being able to smell football. Showing up to the field before half the world is even awake. Putting on the cleats and just seeing smiling face after smiling face of jewballer walking through the gate. Football was officially back. At a new field for the first time in years. All the months of nice warm weather faded away and we had a cold wet sunday morning. Wouldn’t trade it for the world. Coming off the heels of the draft, jacks SZ, and the OT softball kiddush and melava malka of a lifetime, it was only fitting to culminate that in a jewball week 1 sunday.

In Game 1a we had dark of Pray, Bin, Daveo, Davenger, Spreadsheets, prime and tom vs colors of yaron, berk, Evon, kut, logic, spira, and stats. Yaron took the ball first and said hey it’s week 1 no one can grab flags. And indeed no one grabbed flags. A curl to stats ended in a first play 75 yard touchdown to start the day. But dark would answer right back. After a methodical ten play drive, a flip to prime from the 2 yard line tied the score at 1. Colors went back to the same formula and this time a handoff to Berk ended in another 75 yard touchdown to make it 2-1. Unfortunately for colors that would be the last time they would score for a while. Dark’s offense tied the game at 2 with another long drive ending in a spreadsheets 5 yard out at the pylon. Colors had the ball back but after yaron tried forcing a deep ball to berk and was picked by pray. Three plays later it was a prime screen that he took the distance from 40 out to make it 3-2. After a colors punt, it was pray hitting tom on a 60 yard deep ball to make it 4-2 dark. After another pick by dark it was another deep shot from pray to prime to make it 5-2. two minutes later it was pray running behind the new rookie paddles… who showed up regardless of the fact he wasn’t in the game and stood there in the rain for a chance to get in and injured stats in the process (RS! stats)….. for a 35 yard rushing td. 6-2 and the game was all but over. But as we looked at the clock to see how much time remained…. It was only 9:00. Dark had somehow scored too fast and yaron had a look in his eye of…. Cool yaron. in under 35 minutes yaron managed to hit berk for two impressive tds and a long catch and run td to kuti and cut the score to 6-5. Dark had a chance to ice the game but on 3rd and 6 a dump off to daveo was dropped and on 4th and 6 a turnover on downs in the red zone. Yaron now had a chance. On 3rd and goal from 7 a bullet slant to berk was caught to tie the game. Dark now had a chance to win it or go home with a tie no one saw coming. After a few runs and screens to prime, it was spreadsheets with a big catch to set up daveo for the game winning td catch and run and redemption. 7-6 dark in a shootout. Jewball to prime on the three tds and being a force in short yardage situations all day.

In game 1b it was dark of gronk, blitz, ice, spiegel, kagan, Steve-o, and vegh vs.colors of avenger, bz, justin, mighty, zinny, tbd, and zada. I love writing recaps about games I didn’t see just as much as Logan loves watching leagues before doing TBI but every time we looked it over it was either mighty or ice with a big play. Did see one beauty vegh pick six where he absolutely jumped a route. Avenger tossed three tds, two to mighty and one to justin and ran one in. and Gronk threw two tds to blitz for a final score of 5-3 colors. Jewball to mighty for the 2 tds and 2 ints and brought one back for a pick six. The rat doing rat things in year 17! Obvs have to talk about something that happened during the game…… guys we don’t make silly calls. Jewball has never played with personal fouls. If you see a dumb take, say something. We’re all out there to play football and have fun. Only a few people wanna spend their Sunday mornings arguing and fighting rather than playing football. That’s not what we do. So don’t make dumb calls, don’t defend dumb calls, and respect the calls when they are made and move on. I don’t know or care at this point what happened but keep it in mind. Most of all though COME ON TIME. A few rookies showing up at 820 and then needing to sit drives out here and there because they weren’t ready to play yet isn’t a thing. Dumb takes. Love you.

In game 2 it was colors of dachs, crumble, ice, kut, waldo, legs, and blitz vs. dark of yaron, pray, prime, whiskey, paddles, and bert. With the rain pouring down now at this point, hockey dachs was just dreaming of ice and hit him early and often for a quick 1-0 lead. Not to be outdone, Yaron hit pray on a 70 yard bomb to tie it at 1-1. Three plays later hockey dachs had himself a fast break and put it in himself for a rushing score. 2-1. That’s when dark just imploded. drops, interceptions, sacks. Waldo with 2 ints and ice with a third and colors started running the score up. After a beauty td to waldo on a fade, dachs doubled up with another td to ice and then one to legs to make it 5-1 colors. A hat trick of sorts. Dark finally answered back with a yaron dump off to bert who took it the distance and looked like a dog chasing a stalker on his way to a 50 yard rec td. 5-2. But dachs answered back with another td to legs and the game was all but over. Dark pulled their goalie and on the last play it was pray to gronk on a pretty fade at the front pylon to put dark out of their misery. 6-3 final and jewball to hockey dacks with the 5 tds thrown and 1 rushing td.

Week 1 is in the books and BH what a Sunday it was. 3 games. 36 jewballers out there. Incredible way to start.
